All in the family: Charles and Blake Dinsdale overlap service for customers in Houston

A common theme we hear from many employees is that it feels like family here at Patterson. But in the case of Charles and Blake Dinsdale, it’s literal.

The father/son duo are both employees on the animal health side of our business, working at Patterson Veterinary. Charles is a senior territory manager, and his son Blake is a service technician serving the Greater Houston, Texas, area.

“My dad had been working for Patterson for quite some time as a territory manager, and one day in 2016 while I was home studying during college, he was overseeing an installation for a new veterinary clinic build,” Blake said. “He asked if I could haul our trailer up to the clinic and help him move some pieces of equipment. I helped move a full body X-ray unit along with some anesthesia units, autoclave, etc. While I was there, I offered to give my dad, and now my co-workers, John Gomez (Austin service tech) and Carlos Guzman (Houston service tech), a hand putting together cage banks and kennel runs. Shortly afterward, a service tech job opening came up and I jumped at the chance to join the team.”

Charles started at Patterson Veterinary as a territory manager, working his way up through several roles leading to his current position as senior territory manager in the Greater Houston area, serving equine, mixed and small animal practices.

“I went to work for Patterson knowing they were a value-added company who served as business partners to their customers,” Charles said. “Patterson’s robust catalog of practice services, not just product or equipment offerings, make it a great option for our practices.”

Although they both work out of Houston, it’s not very often they cross paths, but they do have several customers in common, all the way from Conroe, Texas, down to Missouri City, Texas.

Because many of his customers are also his dad’s, Blake said meeting them has been an easy, welcoming transition.

“Working for Patterson has really been a blessing for me and my family,” Blake said. “Working with an amazing group of people as I do is a blessing and just having my dad as part of all of it really puts the icing on the cake.”

Charles echoed some of those same sentiments. “It’s an honor to be able to work with my son and watch him grow in his work knowledge and achievements,” he said. “We often lean on each other’s experience and lend advice to each other.”
