Adam MacMann uses his years of dental assistant experience to find success at Patterson

The tagline “Trusted Expertise” is founded in the belief that Patterson provides our customers with the best experts to help their business. One way this happens is by hiring employees with previous dental and animal health experience to join Patterson. We are calling this series Outside/In where we will feature employees who joined the company already well versed in the industry.

One of these employees is Territory Representative Adam MacMann. Adam came to Patterson in February of 2022 after working as a dental assistant for 14 years. At the time he was looking for a new career path where he could still pursue his passion for dental.

“I was on my way to becoming a hygienist but was feeling really burnt out,” shares Adam. “I saw a posting for a customer service representative role at Patterson and thought this could be a perfect fit for what I’m looking for in the next phase of my career.”

Adam was very familiar with Patterson during his time as a dental assistant. He regularly put orders in for his clinic and worked closely with the Patterson team on a variety of tasks.

“The one thing that stood out to me when working with Patterson territory representatives is they will take care of you regardless of the situation. They take pride in what they do, and I was thrilled to begin working for a company with those types of values.”

Adam started as a customer service representative and quickly worked his way to becoming a territory representative. As he started in his new role, he quickly realized how his previous dental knowledge gave him a head start to success. From partnering with Patterson territory reps at his old office he was able to gain insight into how things worked at the back end and how to interact with the front office.

“I didn’t even realize how much my dental experience would help me with my job at Patterson until I was in it. From the beginning I knew where to navigate; I knew the systems. New territory reps must learn the acronyms and product listings and that takes time, but I knew all of those from my years of putting in orders. I also had a huge advantage in having hands-on experience with the products. From technology to the everyday supplies, I knew how they worked and what to recommend for my customers.”

The most important aspect of his previous experience is that Adam was able to support our customers from the get-go.

“It’s all about the customer and building out their dream. I feel extremely privileged that they trust my expertise to help them get there,” he says.

Adam felt that his previous dental jobs helped him so much at Patterson that he is in the process of trying to create some resources for new territory reps coming into the role without that same type of background. The new training resources he has in mind could include a territory rep mentor group for newbies, as well as a “dictionary” that contains products, abbreviations, and acronyms all in one spot.

“I love working for Patterson and I take pride in the company. If I can take my experience and use it for the better, I will. After all, we are all one team.”
