Community Support
Merci, Moisson Montréal volunteers
Isabelle Turcotte, Michele Lacroix Piche and 10 additional Patterson Dentaire teammates volunteered at Moisson Montréal.
Moisson is French for “harvest” or “crop” and is the biggest nonprofit that gathers food donations and basic needs products all year long, free of charge, and distributes them to community organizations on the Island of Montreal.
Isabelle told us, “It’s a big organization, so it’s well known. They support big groups of volunteers every day and it’s very popular! I had to book this three months in advance just to reserve my date. I wanted to do it in October, but the only time I could get a group of 20 in was January.”
Most of the group worked in the frozen vegetable packaging and distribution area. Michele noted that this was the first time the group had volunteered for Moisson but she’d love to do it again. “It was fun! It was different than sitting at our desk all day long.”
“We had one in our work group – a lady from our FC, I think she was very validated by that day because that looked more like her own work than it did for us,” Isabelle told us. “She was so much more productive than we were! She could say, ‘Hey, I’m better at this than you. It’s my turn to coach. Let me help you out with the boxes. Let me show you how you stack them.’ She was really happy.”
Doubly rewarding is that Isabelle submitted a Dollars for Doers request to the Patterson Foundation and $1,000 USD will be donated in the group’s name to Moisson.
